Extends recognition and congratulations to Arielle Hudson of Tunica, Mississippi, for receiving the Rhodes Scholarship on November 23, 2019, making her the University of Mississippi's 27th Rhodes Scholar and its first African American female recipient.

Arielle is a senior English education major who graduated from the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science in 2016 and received a full scholarship through the Mississippi Excellence in Teaching Program (METP).

Established "Literacy L.I.G.H.T.S." program that distributed over 400 books and reading materials to classrooms and homes in Tunica, Oxford and surrounding areas, and served as an Associated Student Body Senator and Black Student Union leader.

Plans to pursue dual master's degrees in comparative social policy and comparative international education at the University of Oxford before returning to Mississippi to teach English and fulfill her five-year METP teaching requirement.

Resolution directs that copies be presented to Arielle and her family, forwarded to the University of Mississippi Chancellor, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
