Colonel Chris Gillard retired from the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol effective June 30, 2020, after 26 years of service.

Gillard served as Assistant Commissioner of Public Safety and Colonel since February 2016, leading the state's largest law enforcement agency, and previously held positions including Director of Training, Director of Driver Service Bureau, and Governor's Executive Protection Detail officer.

Gillard overcame an initial injury during Patrol School to graduate in Cadet Class 49 in 1994 and rose through the ranks based on determination and commitment to public service.

Gillard received recognition including membership in the DUI 100 Club (1994-1996), Outstanding Trooper of the Year (1997), Mississippi's 25 Most Influential African-Americans (2019), and Mississippi Trailblazer of the Year (2019).

The Senate recognizes Gillard's legacy of creating a stronger and safer Mississippi and extends best wishes to him and his family for future success.
