House Bill 332 Summary

• Creates the Mississippi First Responders Health and Safety Trust Fund and the Minimum Fire Protection Trust Fund to receive dedicated funding for first responder cancer benefits and fire protection grants.

• Amends the nonadmitted policy fee distribution to allocate 40% of collected fees as follows: $3.2 million to Rural Fire Truck Fund, $500,000 to First Responders Health and Safety Trust Fund, $250,000 to Comprehensive Hurricane Damage Mitigation Program, $1 million to Minimum Fire Protection Trust Fund, $1.5 million to the insurance association, and remaining funds to Capital Expense Fund.

• Authorizes counties and municipalities to purchase used fire trucks that are less than four years old (in addition to new trucks) through the Rural Fire Truck Acquisition Assistance Program, provided they meet National Fire Protection Association standards.

• Removes the July 1, 2022 sunset provision from the nonadmitted policy fee section, making the fee structure permanent.

• Takes effect July 1, 2021.
