MS HB35

Raises the maximum compulsory school attendance age from 17 to 18 years old, requiring children to remain enrolled in school until they turn 18 on or before September 1 of the calendar year

Exempts students who graduate high school before age 18 through dual enrollment, gifted programs, AP courses, International Baccalaureate, GED, or high school equivalency programs from the compulsory attendance requirement

Requires students who turn 18 after the school year begins to sign a written agreement acknowledging their commitment to continue attending their current school for the remainder of the year

Updates the definition of "school" to reference the minimum number of school days established under Section 37-13-63 rather than specifying 180 days

Effective date of July 1, 2021
