House Bill 45 Summary

• Creates the Mississippi Commission on Wage Review composed of seven members including representatives from state agencies, business organizations, and nonprofits to examine wages paid to Mississippi employees in both public and private sectors.

• Requires the commission to review wages at least every two years, compare Mississippi wages to Southeastern region wages, and submit biennial reports to the Mississippi Department of Employment Security and the Legislature with findings and recommendations.

• Establishes commission membership appointment within 30 days, first meeting before August 1, 2021, and requires majority quorum for adoption of rules, resolutions, and reports with five-day notice for all meetings.

• Brings forward numerous existing Mississippi Code sections (Sections 7-7-204, 23-15-239, 25-3-2 through 25-3-71, and 71-1-45) related to employment, compensation, elections, and wages without substantive amendments.
