HB 48 Summary

• Requires the State Workforce Investment Board and occupational licensing boards to accept military education, training, and service as qualified credentials for professional licenses and certificates if substantially equivalent to standard requirements.

• Authorizes temporary practice permits valid for 180 days (extendable for an additional 180 days) for military members, spouses, and dependents who hold current licenses in other states or completed military training equivalent to technical certificates.

• Requires the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning and Mississippi Community College Board to implement policies accepting academic credits from military education, training, or service toward degrees and technical programs.

• Directs the State Workforce Investment Board to work with higher education boards to develop a statewide policy for recognizing military credits at vocational and technical training centers.

• Applies to 33 occupational licensing boards including accountancy, nursing, pharmacy, real estate, construction, and medical professions; takes effect July 1, 2021.
