Requires county medical examiners to certify that they investigated the cause and manner of death and approve cremation before any body can be cremated.

Mandates that any person with knowledge a body will be cremated must promptly notify the county medical examiner where the death occurred.

Prohibits funeral establishments and licensees from cremating a human body without certification from the county medical examiner of the county where death occurred.

Allows medical examiners to charge applicable investigation fees for cremation certifications, paid in the same manner as burial or cremation expenses.

Effective date: July 1, 2021.
