Mineral estates separated from surface estates after January 1, 2022, automatically revert to the surface estate owner after 10 years of no drilling attempts or mineral production

The 10-year nonproduction period can be interrupted by actual drilling operations, production, or shut-in rental payments, with the clock restarting after activity ceases

If the period is interrupted with less than 180 days remaining, the mineral estate owner receives at least 180 days before reversion can occur

Oil production only counts as interrupting nonproduction if the well is located on the same quarter-quarter section as the severed mineral estate; gas wells must be within the same half-section
