Nonviolent offenders incarcerated by the Mississippi Department of Corrections can earn a 10% sentence reduction for each subject area passed on the twelfth grade level Mississippi end-of-course subject area testing program

"Nonviolent offender" is defined as any individual who committed a felony other than a crime of violence under Section 97-3-2

Nonviolent offenders who pass these tests are exempt from the standard 15% cap on earned-time allowances that normally applies to inmates

Offenders convicted after July 1, 2014 must still serve minimum percentages before release: 50% for violent crimes or 25% for other offenses, regardless of earned time
