Commends and congratulates Franklin Academy in Columbus, Mississippi, on its 200th anniversary as the oldest public school in the state, chartered February 10, 1821.

Recognizes the school's historical milestones including construction of its first 20-by-30-foot frame building in 1821, separate brick buildings for boys and girls in the 1830s, and integration in September 1965 with six African-American students.

Acknowledges Franklin Academy's placement on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980 and designation as a Mississippi Landmark on November 14, 1990.

Notes the school transitioned to an elementary institution when Stephen D. Lee High School opened in 1918 and received its current two-story brick building with columned entrance in 1939 under the Public Works Administration.

Directs distribution of the resolution to the Columbus Municipal School District Superintendent, Franklin Academy Principal, and Capitol Press Corps.
