Notes that the United States ranked 45th out of 180 countries on the World Press Freedom Index by Reporters Without Borders as of 2018, behind countries including Ghana, South Africa, and Jamaica

Emphasizes that an independent press ensures government accountability, decreases corruption risk, and enables citizens to stay informed and participate in democracy

Directs copies of the resolution to be furnished to members of the Capitol Press Corps
