Senate Bill 2025 - Travel Insurance Act Summary

• Creates comprehensive legal framework for selling travel insurance in Mississippi by amending and clarifying the Limited Lines Travel Insurance Act, effective July 1, 2021.

• Establishes licensing requirements for limited lines travel insurance producers and travel retailers, including designation of a responsible producer, employee training programs, and registration of travel retailers under the producer's license.

• Defines travel insurance to include coverage for trip cancellation, baggage loss, emergency evacuation, sickness/accident during travel, and repatriation of remains, excludes major medical plans lasting longer than six months.

• Allows travel protection plans to combine travel insurance, travel assistance services, and cancellation fee waivers at one price if consumers receive clear disclosure and access to information about each component prior to purchase.

• Imposes premium tax on travel insurance sold to Mississippi residents and prohibits negative option/opt-out sales, free marketing of blanket coverage, and sale of policies that could never result in claim payments.
