• Establishes the Mississippi Paid Family Leave Act to be administered by the Mississippi Department of Employment Security, providing 12 workweeks of paid leave during any 12-month period for qualifying reasons.

• Eligible employees must have worked for their employer for at least 12 months and completed 1,250 hours of service; applies to employers with 50 or more employees within a 75-mile radius.

• Leave qualifies for birth or adoption/foster care placement of a child, care for a family member with a serious health condition, or the employee's own serious health condition; leave may be taken intermittently or on a reduced schedule when medically necessary.

• Employees are protected from termination or discrimination for taking leave, must be restored to their original or equivalent position upon return, and may continue health insurance coverage at their own expense during leave.

• Employers violating the act face civil penalties of at least $1,000 per violation; employees may recover lost wages, benefits, liquidated damages, and attorney's fees through civil action; take effect July 1, 2021.
