Law enforcement officers must obtain written consent before conducting voluntary searches of persons not under arrest, their effects, or vehicles

Officers must inform individuals that they are being asked to voluntarily consent, have the right to refuse, and may withdraw consent at any time before obtaining their signature

Consent forms must include the individual's name, date and time of stop/search, vehicle make and model if applicable, and names of all officers conducting the stop and search

Requirements do not apply to searches incident to lawful arrest, searches authorized by other law, or searches in correctional facilities, jails, custody facilities, or by probation/parole officers when search is a condition of supervision

Act takes effect July 1, 2021
