SB 2916 Summary

• Appropriates $107,455,881.00 from the State General Fund and $126,720,218.00 from other state treasury funds to the Department of Public Safety for fiscal year 2022 (July 1, 2021 - June 30, 2022).

• Authorizes 1,827 permanent full-time positions, 95 time-limited full-time positions, and 3 time-limited part-time positions for the department.

• Transfers Capitol Police law enforcement personnel and $6,632,215.00 to the Department of Public Safety on July 1, 2021; contingently transfers Commercial Transportation Enforcement Division personnel and $16,210,546.00 from the Mississippi Department of Transportation pending passage of SB 2825.

• Establishes performance measures and targets across multiple divisions including enforcement, driver services, forensic analysis, training academy, drug enforcement, and highway safety.

• Provides $1,500,000.00 from the Capital Expense Fund for repairs and renovations at the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers Training Academy and $100,000.00 for bulletproof vests.
