Jackson Academy Girls Basketball Team defeated defending champion Jackson Prep 35-34 on February 27, 2021, for the MAIS Class 5A State Championship, with Prep failing to score in the final 7 minutes 27 seconds.

Senior Natalie Thompson and McKinna Smith each scored 9 points for Jackson Academy, while Emily Thompson recorded a game-high 10 rebounds.

Head Coach Jan Sojourner won her 987th career game in her 41st season, with 885 wins in 36 seasons at Jackson Academy and a record six MAIS Overall titles.

Jackson Academy improved to 29-2 with the victory and won its eighth consecutive game after splitting two earlier meetings with Jackson Prep during the 2021 season.

Senate commends the Jackson Academy "Lady Raiders" team, coaches, parents and sponsors for bringing honor to their school and the State of Mississippi.
