House Bill 1151 Summary

• Prohibits public officials and their attorneys from settling, compromising, or consenting to court orders that conflict with Mississippi state law or the Mississippi Constitution.

• Declares void and without legal effect any settlement, compromise, condition, or court order agreed to by a public official that conflicts with state law.

• Requires parties challenging a statute's constitutionality, validity, or preemption to provide copies of their pleadings to the Speaker of the House and President of the Senate within 14 days of filing in court.

• Grants the Speaker and President of the Senate the right to intervene in legal actions challenging statutes, with authority to hire outside counsel at public expense independent of the Attorney General.

• Takes effect July 1, 2022.
