Counties may pay reasonable hospital and medical expenses for paid or volunteer fire department members for occupational diseases, accidents, or injuries incurred in the line of duty from the county general fund.

Counties may purchase insurance premiums covering hospital and medical expenses for fire department members for occupational diseases, accidents, or injuries sustained in the line of duty.

Counties may purchase accident, death, or disability insurance policies for fire department members covering expenses associated with occupational diseases, accidents, or injuries in the line of duty.

Section 21-25-9 of Mississippi Code is amended to extend the same hospital, medical, and insurance payment authorities to municipalities maintaining paid or volunteer fire departments, including those providing emergency medical services.

The act takes effect July 1, 2022.
