Amends Section 21-8-7 of Mississippi Code to require council members elected to represent municipal wards to be residents of their wards for two (2) years at the time of qualification for election.

References Section 23-15-300 for the specific residency requirement standards applicable to ward-based council candidates.

Allows candidates to qualify using their existing residence or by changing residence not less than fifteen (15) days before the first party primary or special party primary when ward boundaries have been changed through redistricting.

Maintains existing provisions that council members who remove their residence from the municipality or their elected ward must vacate office.

Takes effect July 1, 2022.
