House Bill 807 Summary

• Establishes a $1.00 assessment on traffic violations (Title 63 violations), implied consent law violations, game and fish violations, other misdemeanors, and other felonies to fund the Civil Legal Assistance Fund.

• Removes funding allocations to 27 existing funds (State Court Education Fund, State Prosecutor Education Fund, Capital Defense Counsel Fund, etc.) that previously received assessments from criminal and traffic violations.

• Redirects the majority of assessment revenue to the State General Fund, with only $1.00 per violation going to the Civil Legal Assistance Fund for traffic violations ($91.50 total per violation), implied consent violations ($244.50 total), misdemeanors ($122.75 total), and felonies ($281.50 total).

• Maintains existing additional assessments for railroad crossing violations ($25.00), drug violations ($25.00-$2.00), and motor vehicle liability insurance violations ($200.00-$400.00).

• Takes effect July 1, 2022.
