MS HB906

Allows persons sentenced by the Department of Corrections to serve sentences in any county jail (rather than only the county of conviction) if certain conditions are met.

Requires offenders to be classified per Section 47-5-905, not classified as needing close supervision, and have the county sheriff's written request to house them.

Makes the county responsible for full care and housing expenses once the offender is classified and returned to the county jail.

Requires the county jail to be an approved facility for housing state inmates under federal court order.

Authorizes the Department of Corrections to reimburse counties for expenses of housing state offenders under this section, effective July 1, 2022.
