Honors Laura Bivins, kindergarten math teacher at Ann E. Smith Elementary School in Madison County, for winning the United States Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching, the highest award of its kind from the federal government

Recognizes Bivins as one of only two teachers selected in Mississippi for this prestigious honor, which is awarded to K-12 educators across all 50 states, D.C., Puerto Rico, and U.S. territories

Notes Bivins has 28 consecutive years of experience as a kindergarten teacher and holds National Board Certification in Early Childhood Generalist; earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education and master's degree in education from Mississippi College

Award recipients receive a certificate signed by the President of the United States and a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation

Directs copies of the resolution be provided to Ms. Bivins, the principal at Ann E. Smith Elementary School, and Capitol Press Corps
