Reduces the threshold for first-degree shoplifting from $1,000 to $500, making merchandise valued at $500 or less subject to misdemeanor penalties.

Lowers maximum fines for first shoplifting conviction from $1,000 to $500, and for second conviction from $1,000 to $750.

Reduces the felony threshold for third or subsequent shoplifting convictions from $500-$1,000 range to $100-$500 range in merchandise value.

Maintains existing provisions allowing courts to suspend jail sentences for misdemeanor shoplifting if community-based supervision is appropriate, or impose probation up to one year.

Takes effect July 1, 2022.
