Simple possession of 30 grams or less of marijuana is reclassified from a criminal offense to a civil infraction, punishable by a $100 fine rather than criminal penalties

Motor vehicle operators possessing more than 1 gram but not more than 30 grams of marijuana in the passenger area commit a civil infraction with a $100 fine, rather than the previous misdemeanor charge

Possession of more than 30 grams but less than 250 grams of marijuana is reduced to a misdemeanor with a maximum fine of $1,000 and/or up to one year in county jail, eliminating the previous option for up to 3 years in state prison

Municipal courts are granted jurisdiction to hear civil infractions and impose civil penalties related to marijuana possession

The bill takes effect July 1, 2022
