Senate Bill 2882 Summary

• Requires applicants for standard teacher licenses to submit transcripts showing completion of a teacher education program accredited by the national accreditor for educator preparation providers approved by the State Board of Education, replacing specific references to NCATE.

• Modifies the Teach Mississippi Institute (TMI) nontraditional teacher preparation program to require a two semester, six-hour supervised internship (increased from one semester, three hours) to be completed while employed as a full-time teacher intern.

• Allows TMI courses to be offered at any state board-approved educator preparation provider with an approved TMI program, removing the previous pilot program limitation of up to four locations.

• Increases the number of semester hours that can be credited toward a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree from twelve (12) to fifteen (15) hours earned through the nontraditional teacher internship program.

• Effective July 1, 2022.
