MS SB2887

Amends Section 37-41-81 to authorize school boards to purchase, own, and operate electric vehicles for transporting children to and from public schools, in addition to traditional motor vehicles.

Brings forward existing sections 37-41-83, 37-41-85, and 37-41-101 governing school transportation vehicle purchasing procedures, funding, and State Board of Education approval requirements.

Maintains existing requirements that school boards use available transportation funds for vehicle purchases, maintenance, and driver salaries, and that all purchases comply with State Board of Education specifications and bidding procedures.

Takes effect July 1, 2022.
