Recognizes the judicial service of Hinds County Chancellor Denise Sweet Owens upon her retirement after announcing she would not seek re-election

Chancellor Owens was elected in 1989 as Chancellor for Hinds County and serves as Senior Judge, graduating from Tougaloo College (1972) and George Washington University Law School (1979)

Prior to the bench, she worked as an attorney with Legal Services (1979-1982), was Partner and Managing Attorney for Owens & Owens Law Firm (1983-1986), and served as Adjunct Professor at Tougaloo, Hinds Community College, and Jackson State University

Received numerous honors including the 2010 Chief Justice Award from the Mississippi Supreme Court, 2009 Mississippi Volunteer Lawyers Pioneer Award, and 2006 Hinds County Bar Judicial Innovation Award

Directs that the resolution be presented to Judge Owens and her family, forwarded to the Hinds County Bar Association, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps
