Commends and congratulates the Picayune High School "Maroon Tide" Football Team and Head Coach Cody Stogner for winning the MHSAA Class 5A State Football Championship on December 4, 2021.

Picayune defeated West Point High School 40-21 in Hattiesburg after trailing 21-20, holding West Point to seven points in the second half; this was Coach Stogner's first championship as Head Coach.

Junior running back Dante Dowdell led the team with 25 carries for 149 yards and two touchdowns, supported by freshman Darrell Smith (59-yard touchdown run) and Chris Davis (139 yards, two touchdowns).

Sophomore defensive end Jamonta Waller sealed the victory with a 35-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown; the defense allowed only 16 points per game during an 11-game winning streak.

Resolution directs that copies be presented to Coach Stogner and Picayune Principal Kristi Mitchell, forwarded to the Picayune School Board, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
