MS HB1034

Revises the State Veterans Affairs Board composition from five (5) congressional districts plus two (2) at-large members to four (4) congressional districts plus three (3) at-large members, effective July 1, 2023.

Requires all board members to be appointed by the Governor with advice and consent of the Senate, and to be honorably discharged or released veterans of any U.S. Armed Forces war or police action.

Establishes five (5) year terms for all members appointed after July 1, 2023, with staggered transitions for existing board members whose terms continue under prior law.

Requires vacancies to be filled by gubernatorial appointment with Senate confirmation from the appropriate congressional district or at-large, for the unexpired term only.

Takes effect July 1, 2023.
