MS HB1433

Establishes the "Mississippi Senior Cadets Program" administered by the State Department of Education to reduce poor academic scores and high dropout rates by having high school seniors mentor kindergarten through eighth grade students in their school districts.

Requires student participants to mentor at least 5 hours per week, work with school principals and teachers at least 2 hours per month, and maintain at least a "C" average in senior coursework.

Awards successful program participants with preference for state scholarship grants, 3 hours of elective high school credit, and 3 hours of college credit at Mississippi public universities.

Authorizes the State Department of Education to create rules and regulations for program administration and establishes guidelines for school districts and mentors.

Amends Section 37-106-29 of the Mississippi Code to make Senior Cadets Program completion a factor in determining eligibility for Mississippi Resident Tuition Assistance Grants; takes effect July 1, 2023.
