Beginning in the 2023-2024 school year, licensed teachers in critical shortage subject areas employed by school districts with accountability ratings of "D" or "F" are eligible for an annual salary supplement of up to $15,000.00

The local school district determines the supplement amount based on the teacher's years of experience in the critical needs subject area, educational attainment, and professional certifications including National Board certification

The State Department of Education pays salary supplements directly to local school districts as an addition to their adequate education program allotments

School districts cannot reduce local supplements paid to teachers receiving this salary supplement, and teachers must receive any other local supplements available to employees with similar training and experience

This supplement is in addition to any other compensation the teacher may be entitled to, including existing supplements for National Board certification and other qualifications
