Authorizes the Mississippi Department of Public Safety to investigate the death of any current or former elected or appointed public official at the state, county, or municipal level when the official is killed or the circumstances of death are questionable

Names this investigative authority provision the "Representative Ashley Henley Investigative Authority Act"

Adds this authority to the existing powers of the Department of Public Safety under Section 45-3-21 of the Mississippi Code, which primarily governs the Highway Safety Patrol

The new investigative power applies to officials at all levels of government including state, county, municipality, and political subdivisions

Effective date: July 1, 2023
