Requires all state and local law enforcement agencies to electronically record all custodial interrogations of persons suspected of committing crimes of violence as defined by Mississippi Code Section 97-3-2.

Mandates that electronic recordings be continuous and uninterrupted, capturing the complete custodial interrogation, with audiovisual recording used when feasible.

Requires that if a defendant makes or signs a written statement during custodial interrogation, the making and signing of that statement shall also be electronically recorded.

Requires each law enforcement agency to safely store and retain all recordings for a minimum of 30 years from the date the interrogation was recorded.

Effective date: July 1, 2023.
