MS HB42

Amends Mississippi Code Section 63-3-519 to authorize sheriffs and their deputies to use radar speed detection equipment on county roads and highways outside municipal limits.

Radar equipment use is limited to public roads, streets, or highways under county board of supervisors jurisdiction and located outside incorporated municipality corporate limits.

Maintains existing restrictions that only Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol and municipal law enforcement in municipalities of 1,500+ population can use radar on public streets within their jurisdictions.

Permits campus police at colleges and universities with 2,000+ enrolled students to use radar within campus confines.

Effective date is July 1, 2023.
