Removing or assisting in removing street, road, or highway signs is a misdemeanor punishable by fines up to $1,000 per offense

If the aggregate value of stolen signs exceeds $1,000 but is less than $5,000, the offense becomes a felony with up to 5 years imprisonment and/or fines up to $10,000

Street, road, and highway signs are added to the list of metals that scrap metal dealers are prohibited from purchasing unless obtained directly from the state, political subdivision, municipal utility, or manufacturer

Scrap metal dealers who purchase signs or similar prohibited items in bulk must notify law enforcement within 24 hours if such items are discovered in the purchase
