Amends Section 25-31-10, Mississippi Code of 1972, to move the 13th Circuit Court District from the list of districts with one additional criminal investigator to the list of districts with two additional criminal investigators.

The 13th Circuit Court District district attorney may now appoint two additional full-time criminal investigators for a total of three, matching the authorization for First, Second, Fourth, Seventh, and Nineteenth Circuit Court Districts.

Criminal investigators must have compensation not exceeding $59,500 annually, with possible supplementation from other available funds for those with law degrees.

District attorneys retain authority to assign duties of criminal investigators regardless of funding source and may designate investigators to attend law enforcement training programs.

Effective July 1, 2023.
