House Bill 879 Summary

• Amends Section 31-7-13 of Mississippi Code to allow competitive bids exceeding $75,000 to be advertised on the procurement portal established by the Department of Finance and Administration under Section 25-53-151.

• Reduces the required advertisement period for bids over $75,000 from two (2) consecutive weeks in newspapers to seven (7) consecutive calendar days on the procurement portal, with optional additional newspaper advertising allowed.

• Requires governing authorities to notify the Mississippi Procurement Technical Assistance Program main office of solicitations for posting on the portal, with electronic notification sent on the same day as newspaper advertisements if applicable.

• Maintains existing bidding procedures for purchases under $75,000 and preserves all other public purchasing law requirements and exemptions.

• Takes effect July 1, 2023.
