MS SB2096

Requires the Department of Child Protection Services to remove names from the central registry and purge records when a person is wrongfully convicted or adjudicated of child abuse or neglect.

Mandates that child abuse and neglect reports include the name of the reporter.

Requires disclosure of the reporter's identity to the alleged perpetrator if a report is determined to be knowingly false, and requires purging of the alleged perpetrator's identity from department and court records.

Creates a civil cause of action for injunctive relief and compensatory damages for any person falsely accused in a report, applicable retroactively to January 1, 2018.

Becomes effective July 1, 2023.
