MS SB2119

Amends Section 97-37-5 of the Mississippi Code to clarify that possessing multiple weapons subjects an offender to one charge per weapon rather than a single consolidated charge.

Changes the statutory language from "any firearm" and "any" weapon to "a firearm" and "a" weapon to establish that each weapon constitutes a separate violation.

Applies to felons possessing firearms, bowie knives, dirk knives, butcher knives, switchblade knives, metallic knuckles, blackjacks, or firearm mufflers/silencers.

Maintains existing penalties of up to $5,000 in fines and/or 1-10 years imprisonment for violations, with each weapon counting as a separate felony offense.

Takes effect July 1, 2023.
