Effective July 1, 2023, school board members' annual salaries are determined by student enrollment as of October 1 each fiscal year, replacing the previous per diem ($67 per meeting) and flat salary ($2,400 annually) options.

Salary tiers based on district enrollment: $3,600 (up to 5,000 students), $4,200 (5,000-10,000), $4,800 (10,000-20,000), $5,400 (20,000-30,000), and $6,000 (over 30,000 students).

Board members are not eligible for state employee group insurance, retirement benefits, or other fringe benefits due to receiving compensation.

Members who miss 20% or more of board meetings in a calendar year must reimburse the school district a proportionate amount of salary paid, except for absences due to military duty.

School board presidents must report annually by February 1 to the State Board of Education the names of members who missed 20% or more of meetings during the preceding calendar year.
