Increases the fine for simple assault with aggravating circumstances from $1,000 to $2,500, with imprisonment up to five years instead of six months.

Increases the fine for aggravated assault with aggravating circumstances from $5,000 to $10,000 and reduces maximum imprisonment from thirty years to ten years.

Designates assault upon any elected official as an aggravating circumstance for both simple and aggravated assault charges.

Maintains existing aggravating circumstances including assaults on law enforcement, emergency personnel, healthcare workers, school employees, judges, prosecutors, and persons age 65 or older.

Takes effect July 1, 2023.
