Senate Bill 2292 Summary

• Establishes the Mississippi Paid Family Leave Act, administered by the Department of Employment Security, providing paid family and medical leave benefits beginning January 1, 2026

• Eligible covered individuals can receive up to 12 weeks of paid leave per year for birth/adoption of a child, caring for a family member with a serious health condition, their own serious health condition, or military family qualifying exigencies

• Weekly benefits equal 90% of average weekly wage with a minimum of $30 and maximum of $1,000 (through 2026) or the state average weekly wage thereafter

• Requires employees to pay premiums determined by the State Treasurer based on actuarial principles starting January 1, 2025, collected by employers and deposited into the Family and Medical Leave Insurance Fund

• Prohibits employer retaliation against employees exercising leave rights and requires employers to restore employees to their original position or equivalent with maintained health insurance benefits during leave
