Licensed teachers working in public school districts designated as geographical critical teacher shortage areas by the State Board of Education would receive an annual salary supplement of $2,000 plus fringe benefits, in addition to all other compensation

The salary supplement would be paid directly by the State Department of Education to local school districts, separate from adequate education program allotments

Local school districts would be prohibited from reducing local supplements paid to teachers receiving this shortage area supplement

Teachers receiving this supplement would remain entitled to any local supplement that employees with similar training and experience receive

The bill would take effect July 1, 2023
