Department of Audit shall contract with an experienced third-party auditing company specializing in correctional performance audits to conduct a comprehensive audit of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

Third-party auditor must deliver findings report to the Department of Audit and House and Senate Corrections Committee Chairmen by November 1, 2024.

Report shall analyze per-inmate per-day costs, medical and food costs, supervision costs of private contractors, facilities maintenance versus new construction costs, and administrative operational costs.

Report shall examine costs of regional correctional facilities, workforce training and recidivism reduction programs, technical violation and restitution centers, and incidents of violence and sexual assault in MDOC facilities.

Act takes effect upon passage.
