• Prohibits candidates for public office from appearing in their name, voice, or likeness in publicly funded advertisements during the year before and year of statewide general elections.

• Requires candidates to file an affidavit certifying compliance with the advertising prohibition when paying their candidate entry fee to qualify for election.

• Makes violation of the prohibition a misdemeanor punishable by fine up to $3,000 and/or imprisonment up to six months; false affidavits constitute perjury.

• Disqualifies convicted violators from holding any public office until the next statewide general election following the conviction; applies to both state and local government candidates.

• Applies the same advertising restriction to candidates for nonpartisan judicial office during the year of the statewide general election.
