Mississippi Recall Act of 2023 - SB2508

• Establishes a statewide recall procedure for state officials, legislators, and local elected officials, requiring signatures from at least 35% of electors who voted in the last election for that office.

• Prohibits recall applications during the first 180 days of an official's term or within the final 6 months of their term, and requires at least 100 sponsors or 10% of eligible electors (whichever is fewer) to file an application.

• Mandates recall elections be held 50-65 days after petition certification (or on an upcoming primary/general election date), with officials removed if more than half of votes cast favor recall.

• Bars subsequent recall petitions for 6 months following either a recall election or denial of a petition, and renders any outstanding applications void on the date a recall election is held.

• Makes it a misdemeanor with fines up to $500 to give/receive money for signatures, sign another's name, sign multiple times, forge signatures, or coerce petition participation; repeals existing local official recall procedures.
