Authorizes courts to impose assessments against defendants convicted of felonies or Class I violations to recover investigative costs incurred by the Mississippi Department of Human Services, Office of Inspector General, Fraud Investigative Unit.

Recoverable costs include investigators, service of process, court reporters, expert witnesses, attorney's fees, and transportation expenses related to case investigation.

Recovered funds must be paid to the appropriate governmental entity and used to augment existing budgets rather than replace current funding.

Adds the Department of Human Services to the list of agencies authorized to recover investigation costs under Mississippi Code Section 99-19-77, alongside the Attorney General, district attorneys, and other law enforcement agencies.

Takes effect July 1, 2024.
