HB 1049 Summary

• Removes the $10,000 cap on annual supplements that boards of supervisors may pay to sheriffs in counties not specifically listed in subsections (2) through (9).

• Allows any county board of supervisors to pay an unlimited annual supplement to their sheriff, with the amount to be recorded in the board's minutes.

• Maintains existing $10,000 caps (or $15,000 for Hinds County) for supplements in specifically authorized counties including Leflore, Rankin, Tunica, Wilkinson, Marshall, and Greene counties.

• Preserves an additional $5,000 supplement option for sheriffs in counties with juvenile detention centers.

• Effective date: July 1, 2024.
