MS HB1055

Requires the State of Mississippi and political subdivisions to compensate nonexempt law enforcement officers at their regular hourly rate for the first 43 hours per week, 86 hours per two-week period, or 171 hours per 28-day period.

Allows compensation for those hours to be provided as compensatory time on at least an hour-for-hour basis, which cannot be forfeited and must be paid out upon employee separation at the current hourly rate.

Mandates compliance with Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) requirements for any hours worked beyond the specified thresholds.

Applies to all law enforcement officers as defined in Section 45-6-3 employed by the state or any political subdivision.

Takes effect July 1, 2024.
