House Bill 1080 Summary

• Amends Section 63-7-83 of the Mississippi Code to expand coverage requirements for open-top trucks, trailers, and carriers from state/U.S./interstate highways to all public roadways within any municipality or county in Mississippi.

• Requires open-top vehicles transporting sand, dirt, gravel, rock, or paint to be equipped with and secured under a tarpaulin, canvas, or other top covering to prevent items from escaping.

• Adds paint to the list of materials that must be covered, in addition to the existing requirements for sand, dirt, gravel, and rock.

• Takes effect July 1, 2024.
